We spend the days in the UAE mainly getting Globi back in shape after the accident. To do this, we visit various workshops around Dubai!
Hearing aid
Just a few days after starting our trip to the Orient, the cable of the hearing aid to the speaker in my ear broke off, a sign of fatigue. There is a Phonak representative in Dubai, fantastic. Denis drove me there and my device was repaired in no time, unfortunately they fitted the holding cable the wrong way round, so my ear was chafed. Gabi simply cut the cable off with a nail clipper, now everything is back to normal and I can even hear Gabi again.
Happy moment
After we got Globi ready to travel again, Gabi inside, me outside, we spent the first weekend with Mike in a desert camp between the dunes. It was wonderful to be in the middle of the desert and have time to chat and just chill. In the morning a few falconers came by, and we were allowed to hold and pet the animals, an impressive experience.
Encounters
While we were away, two young people lost control of their Lexus and drove into our parked Globi at excessive speed. Luckily, they survived. The Lexus was a total write-off, Globi had a destroyed storage box and a torn-off underride guard.
Casey, a follower on Insta, spontaneously helped us a lot to repair the accident while we were away. Now we have the chance to meet him in person and spend two lovely days with him in the desert. We enjoy the time with him and feel very lucky to meet such friends.
Technology Pitfalls
After standing in the sweltering heat, our entry steps also have some issues. They no longer open and close on their own. After we topped up the oil, things are getting better again, but they only work if we push the last part in by hand. Denis recommends Hytec, a hydraulics company. After more than a day of intensive work, the very friendly team gets the steps more or less back in shape, but we have to replace all the bearings next year.
For a smile
I had to get a new passport made because my old one didn’t have any free pages left. My Oman visa is actually still valid, but it is under a different passport number. So I apply for a new one. The visa is rejected by Oman on the grounds that I still have a valid visa. I try to explain that I have a new passport, but no answer. We just try it and travel to Oman with a visa that doesn’t actually match the passport. It works out fine, the customs officers are completely happy with it. We were under a lot of stress for days because we didn’t know how to get out of this mess, but in the end, everything was resolved amicably.
