We drive the Michelin XZL 14.00R20 out of conviction and almost always since we have been on the road with a truck-based expedition vehicle. The spread of these tires is very good worldwide, since most military vehicles are equipped with precisely these tires. However, the availability for us civilians is not as great as one might think. In some countries you need a confirmation that the vehicle is not a military vehicle and in many countries the tire is simply not available. Where the tire is available, the prices are extremely different and, above all, the customs costs are sometimes unacceptably high. So far, we have had to procure tires from outside Europe three times, and the differences have been significant.
Price per tire
Switzerland | 2022 | CHF 1’220.60 | 100% |
---|---|---|---|
Malawi | 2017 | CHF 1’673.63 | 137% |
Uruguay | 2019 | CHF1’533.43 | 126% |
Paraguay | 2022 | CHF 1’273.21 | 104% |
These prices are only based on personal experience. They cannot be generalized and can therefore only serve as a guiding principle. The Swiss price is just the catalog price for comparison reasons. This price is neither negotiated nor realised.
That’s a lot of money. How many kilometers are you doing with these tires?
We do about 40’000 km. We use alot of tires because of 6×6 and the weight.
