As at summer 2015
The shipment from Denmark to Iceland and back is actually operated via a normal car ferry. The booking runs through the internet www.smyrilline.de and is very easy to handle. The site is understandable and informative. The campsite in Hirtshals would probably not be able to accommodate all vehicles that want to take the ferry. We stayed on the parking lot in front of the ferry. The parking is not set up for this. The loading was accordingly very chaotic, because everyone seemed to fear that they would not get on the ferry!! The infrastructure on the ferry is typical, it has everything you need. The drive back and forth was very pleasant in each case. The boarder formalities on the Icelandic side were very easy and efficient. Once you left the ferry you can just drive over the hill to Egilsstaðir, where you can buy everything you need, including SIM cards.

Hi Peter and Gabi
I really like and appreciated your information… I have a question about, I would appreciate if you can let me know, how the registration goes to take into Iceland 2 vehicles, Do you register one by each person or can you register both at one person’s name, or you just goes inside Iceland as part of the European Union…?
Once I saw that in some countries, not really in the EU, mostly in South America, you must to register just one vehicle per person.
Thank you very much and I/We really are waiting for you videos in youtube, we know that were already in Iceland but, each time is a new adventure!!!
Safe drive!!

Hi Augusto & Melanie
We have registered one vehicle per person. So we are on the safe side.
