To get to Salalah in the south, you must cross the middle part, which has nothing except oil wells. We wanted to take the route along the Saudi border on the sandy roads, but the locals advised against it as the roads were private and the oil companies would send you all the way back if they caught you. We took the almost 1,000km boring tar road through the desert!!
