5/11/23 to 6/16/23
The Globi chassis is now ready for the next 100,000km and officially tested.
Second major service since 2015
After eight years and just over 100,000km, Globi will once again receive an all-round service after 2018. Globi also had to go to the motor vehicle inspection so that he can legally drive around the world again. Being away travelling we only did annual oil changes and oil filter changes, but this time everything was checked. Last but not least, the starter batteries that we had bought in South Africa, and which had served well for seven years had to be changed. Repairs were not necessary on the chassis; the MAN still runs like new after the first 100,000 km.
Spare wheel holder
Unfortunately, the spare wheel holder did not survive the many corrugated iron roads. We indeed welded the spare wheel suspension practically every time we changed tires. Now it’s time to install a more stable suspension using the same principle. We look forward to no longer being afraid of losing a spare wheel.
Entry stairs
The access stairs to the living area had lost a screw more than a year ago. Despite that it still worked. But now is the time to fix this detail. At the same time, Claudio from NFL was able to fix the loose contact of the staircase light, so that we now have a entrance staircase like new again.
Intermediate frame
The intermediate frame has also felt the many vibrations. The bearing shells were a bit worn through and at least half of them had to be replaced. The leveling supports have been made workable again. Something I always do with a rubber mallet when we are travelling. The system of levers is extremely exposed to dirt and need to be looked after from time to time.
